The All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a stern warning to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, urging him to cease blaming President Bola Tinubu and former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for his political difficulties. Instead, the party insists he should prioritize a campaign focused on actual governance issues ahead of the August 15 gubernatorial election.
Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the APC, addressed reporters in Abuja, countering recent claims made by Governor Adeleke at a public rally. Adeleke had accused the President and his predecessor of undermining his administration, even suggesting that unresolved political tensions could lead to a situation reminiscent of the unrest seen in 1983.
Basiru dismissed these allegations as clear signs of desperation born from the fear of electoral loss. He highlighted significant failures in the governor’s performance, specifically citing the poor state of over 20 roads and a shortage of roughly 30,000 teachers in the region. According to the APC official, the governor is resorting to political scare tactics because he cannot point to a successful track record.
Separately, the Osun APC spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, alleged that the governor is actively supporting and financing violence. Olabisi questioned why the governor has allegedly provided sanctuary for criminals within the state house and granted amnesty to individuals serving prison sentences shortly before the election. The APC representatives maintain that Adeleke’s endorsement of President Tinubu’s future candidacy is irrelevant to his current performance, and they expect the upcoming vote to be a direct assessment of his leadership.
