GB Snowsport loses direct funding as UK Sport updates investment strategy

UK Sport is altering its funding distribution for skiing and snowboarding, moving away from GB Snowsport while guaranteeing that individual athlete grants remain unaffected.

UK Sport has decided to stop funneling its £12.5m investment into winter sports through GB Snowsport. Despite this administrative change, athletes and coaches will continue to receive their financial support directly, ensuring their preparations for the 2030 Winter Olympics and Paralympics in the French Alps remain uninterrupted.

This decision follows an exceptionally successful period for Team GB, which recently secured five medals, including a historic trio of golds, at the Milan-Cortina Games. UK Sport officials explained that the move is designed to maximize the impact of their record-breaking £33m investment package. Consequently, an independent audit of GB Snowsport’s internal governance will now be conducted.

GB Snowsport expressed disappointment regarding the change in funding channels. The organization, which has experienced leadership turnover recently, maintains that its internal standards are robust and intends to cooperate fully with the upcoming review. Meanwhile, UK Sport is restructuring how it delivers elite performance funds, moving toward a multi-sport delivery model. Organizations like bobsleigh, skeleton, and curling will continue to benefit from these funds as the national body prepares for future international competition.
