The Ebonyi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) officially launched its campaign on Monday for the upcoming local government polls scheduled for August 22. Party leadership urged members to prioritize peaceful engagement, grassroots outreach, and the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to guarantee success across all 13 local government areas and 171 wards.
The event took place in Ikwo Local Government Area, where Deputy Governor Princess Patricia Onyemaechi Obila represented Governor Francis Nwifuru. During the ceremony, she handed the party flag to the APC chairmanship candidate for Ikwo, Henry Chidi Nwode, and his deputy. Obila encouraged supporters to focus on the merits of their candidates rather than negative campaigning.
Former Governor Martin Elechi emphasized that political activity should remain civil, reminding attendees that citizens have a constitutional right to choose their political affiliations without fear of intimidation. He called for lawful conduct throughout the election cycle. Supporting this sentiment, Speaker of the House of Assembly Moses Odunwa and Federal Constituency representative Chinedu Ogah urged residents to stay united and actively participate in the democratic process.
APC State Chairman Stanley Okoro Emegha highlighted the strong support base in Ikwo, noting that the party maintains significant influence there. For his part, candidate Henry Chidi Nwode expressed his gratitude for the nomination. He pledged to foster inclusive governance by focusing on infrastructure, agricultural growth, healthcare, and security if elected to office.
