At the 2026 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland, Team Nigeria secured a seventh-place finish overall. The squad brought home a total of 24 medals, consisting of 10 gold, seven silver, and seven bronze.
This outcome represents a decrease of 10 medals compared to the 2022 Birmingham Games. The decline is primarily attributed to the truncated sports program in Glasgow, as the city stepped in as host following Victoria’s withdrawal in 2023. Financial and time limitations led to the exclusion of key events like table tennis and wrestling, where Nigeria usually excels.
Nevertheless, individual success stories highlighted the competition. Samuel Ogazi claimed Nigeria’s inaugural Commonwealth gold in the men’s 400m, while Kayinsola Ajayi earned a bronze in the 100m, marking the country’s first medal in that event in two decades. In the para-sports arena, Folashade Oluwafemiayo and Goodness Nwachukwu both secured gold medals while establishing new world records. Additionally, 50-year-old Roland Ezuruike earned silver in the men’s lightweight para-powerlifting category.
Athletics proved to be the most fruitful discipline, contributing 13 podium finishes, followed by six from para-powerlifting. The Games served as a transition point, showcasing rising talent alongside established veterans.
