Prominent figures within the OBIdient and Kwankwasiyya movements living abroad have established a formal alliance to enhance civic engagement and support Nigeria’s democratic development. This partnership was unveiled during the first OBIdient–Kwankwasiyya Global Diaspora Conference at the Springdale Methodist Community Centre in Doncaster, United Kingdom.
The event drew attendees from across Europe, Africa, and North America, utilizing both in-person and virtual formats to connect Nigerians in nations such as Germany, Greece, Spain, and the United States. Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso participated as the guest of honor via a remote address. Key speakers included Dr. Yunusa Tanko, Dr. Muhammed Hamisu, Percy Nduka, Lewis Ugochukwu, and Jackie Wayas.
Damola Adebayo, representing the OBIdient group in Europe, highlighted the initiative as a way to foster unity and accountability. He noted that although the movements possess unique origins, they are united by a common goal to improve the nation. Participants concluded the gathering by agreeing to refine their communication networks and maintain ongoing efforts to involve the diaspora in shaping Nigeria’s political landscape.
