Taiwo Oyedele Urges Delta State to Leverage Resources for Economic Growth

Taiwo Oyedele, head of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy, challenged Delta State officials to shift focus from resource wealth to strategic execution to drive development.

Taiwo Oyedele, the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, has urged Delta State leadership to prioritize effective execution over the mere possession of natural wealth. Speaking at an investment summit in Asaba, he noted that while Delta holds significant potential due to its geography and resources, lasting prosperity depends on how those assets are managed.

Oyedele highlighted that economic success relies on consistent policies and strong institutions rather than just the availability of raw materials. He compared this local goal to the broader federal reforms initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, such as unifying the foreign exchange market and ending fuel subsidies, which aimed to restore national fiscal discipline.

The minister emphasized that while the federal government handles macroeconomic stability, the responsibility for creating jobs and improving local living standards falls to individual states. He argued that officials in Abuja cannot resolve specific regional issues, such as land title disputes or supporting local entrepreneurs, which are essential for industrial development.

Ultimately, Oyedele encouraged investors to engage with Delta State now, asserting that the combination of federal stability and state-level commitment creates a favorable environment for growth. He stressed that protecting investments and respecting contracts are the foundational steps toward turning natural potential into tangible economic gains.
