Mauricio Pochettino has secured a contract extension to remain the head coach of the United States men’s national team through 2030. Having taken the reins in September 2024, the former Tottenham and Chelsea manager recently guided the co-hosting US squad to the Round of 16 during the 2026 World Cup, where they ultimately fell to Belgium.
Beyond his primary coaching duties, US Soccer announced that Pochettino and his staff will take on an expanded advisory role. This mandate includes supporting national team development, youth programs, coaching education, and professional league partnerships. Pochettino expressed his enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing his commitment to building a lasting influence on American soccer that transcends match results.
The US team navigated the group stage with victories over Paraguay and Australia, followed by a last-32 win against Bosnia-Herzegovina. Despite a 4-1 loss to Belgium, US Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone praised the culture of trust and performance established by the manager. She highlighted the federation’s desire to continue investing in the staff and vision that defined the team’s tournament run, which notably included a controversial moment involving striker Folarin Balogun’s involvement in a match against Bosnia.
