Military hunts for kidnapped Zamfara official after five family members rescued

Operation Fansan Yamma troops are conducting a search for kidnapped Bungudu LG Chairman Nura Umar Abdullahi after rescuing five of his family members during a violent attack that left four people dead.

Operation Fansan Yamma soldiers have initiated an urgent search to recover Hon. Nura Umar Abdullahi, the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area in Zamfara State, following his abduction by suspected terrorists. On July 25, 2026, armed attackers broke into his home, overwhelming the security guards on site.

Military forces arrived quickly and confronted the assailants. During the firefight, five family members, including the chairman’s wife and children, were recovered safely. Sadly, the raid resulted in the deaths of two police officers, a vigilante member, and one civilian. The chairman’s brother, Bello Umar, also suffered injuries during the assault.

A combined security task force, incorporating military units, the police, the DSS, and local vigilante groups, is now sweeping identified militant hideouts to locate the chairman. Officials confirmed that all resources are being utilized to track the kidnappers and ensure the chairman’s safe return. Authorities have requested public cooperation and urged residents to share any useful intelligence with security agencies.
