Osun ALGON Urges Governor Adeleke to Halt Unlawful NURTW Intervention

Osun ALGON has challenged Governor Adeleke’s suspension of NURTW activities, asserting that the administration of motor parks falls under local government jurisdiction rather than state authority.

The Osun State chapter of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) has formally warned Governor Ademola Adeleke regarding his recent involvement in the ongoing internal conflict within the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). The association argues that the Governor’s actions compromise the rule of law.

This warning follows the Governor’s decision to prohibit NURTW operations at state motor parks shortly after local council chairmen installed a caretaker committee to oversee transport union matters. Idowu, speaking on behalf of the group, emphasized that the 1999 Constitution designates the management and regulation of public motor parks as the sole jurisdiction of local governments.

Consequently, the association maintains that the Governor holds no legal standing to halt union activities or seize control of park management. They have labeled the Governor’s directive as unconstitutional and invalid, calling upon security forces to prioritize legal adherence in their enforcement actions.
