Iain Robertson, a 45-year-old actor previously known for his role as Stevie O’Hara in the BBC drama River City, has received a nine-year prison sentence. His conviction follows a trial at the High Court in Glasgow where he was found guilty of five counts involving sexual assault and domestic abuse committed against three different women between 2004 and 2019.
Witnesses at the trial described the actor, who resides in Carbeth, Stirlingshire, as a controlling and aggressive individual. During the legal proceedings, testimony revealed that Robertson committed rape and sexual assault against a former co-star who had expressed a desire to keep their relationship platonic. The victim stated in her pre-recorded testimony that Robertson refused to accept her boundaries, insisting she was simply in denial about her feelings.
Robertson appeared for his sentencing via a video link from Barlinnie prison. In addition to his custodial sentence, the court ordered that he remain under supervision for three years following his release.
