President Donald Trump recently sent a formal letter to President Bola Tinubu, praising the Nigerian leader’s firm approach to national security. The message, which was shared on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, was originally dated July 6, 2026.
In the correspondence, Trump highlighted Tinubu’s dedication to curbing violence directed at Christian groups. He expressed pride in collaborating with Nigeria to enhance the country’s strength and economic health. The US President emphasized the importance of the partnership between the two nations, particularly given the rising prevalence of conflict throughout West Africa.
To support these efforts, Trump noted the creation of the 2026 Defence Cooperation Roadmap, a strategic framework designed to combat terrorism. Additionally, he confirmed the deployment of United States Special Operations Forces to provide the Nigerian military with essential training and intelligence resources. These assets are intended to bolster the security of all citizens, with a specific focus on shielding vulnerable religious communities from ongoing threats.
