The Lagos State government has increased its focus on clearing away shanties and various environmental obstructions from the Lagos-Badagry Expressway to improve public order. Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, confirmed the initiative through social media on Monday.
This enforcement operation has been active for three weeks, specifically targeting structures that block public pathways. Commissioner Wahab noted that the government plans to implement long-term monitoring and surveillance in the area to prevent the return of these illegal setups. He emphasized that the state remains committed to preserving the integrity of this major transit corridor.
Addressing the public, Wahab warned traders and residents to stop turning public grounds into unauthorized markets or private workspaces. He stated that those who ignore these regulations and continue to encroach on state-owned land will face arrest and legal prosecution under existing Lagos State environmental laws.
