Kano High Court bars Senator Hanga’s son from posting defamatory content online

A Kano State High Court has ordered Muhammad Samir Rufa’i Sani Hanga to cease posting allegedly defamatory statements about Isa Ado Maidoya on social media pending further legal review.

A Kano State High Court has placed an interim injunction on Muhammad Samir Rufa’i Sani Hanga, prohibiting him from distributing potential libelous material about Isa Ado Maidoya via Facebook and additional digital networks. Justice Jamilu Shehu Suleman authorized this legal restriction following an ex parte motion presented by the plaintiff’s legal representative on July 3, 2026. The request was accompanied by a 21-paragraph sworn affidavit and supporting evidence.

The defendant is the son of Senator Rufa’i Sani Hanga, the legislator representing the Kano Municipal Senatorial District. Under the court’s mandate, Hanga, along with his representatives or associates, is barred from sharing further online statements regarding Maidoya until the primary motion is adjudicated. This decision followed arguments made by Faruk Muhammad, counsel for the applicant. The proceedings, documented under Suit No. K/650/2026, are scheduled to resume on July 30, 2026.
