A continuous 12-hour rainstorm across Lagos has left numerous neighborhoods and businesses struggling with significant flooding. Hardest hit areas include Ago Palace Way in Okota and various sectors of Gbagada, where rising water made streets impossible to navigate. Local witnesses noted that drainage systems failed to contain the downpour, forcing vehicles to stall and pedestrians to walk through water reaching their waists.
In Gbagada, the deluge forced local businesses to remain shuttered and caused public transit operators to halt services due to safety risks. Authorities have urged drivers to steer clear of affected zones, which has caused heavy congestion on nearby routes toward Anthony, Maryland, and Ojota.
The situation remains equally dire in Isashi, Iba LCDA, Okokomaiko, and Ojo, where three consecutive days of rain have displaced many families. Residents like Joel Ubah from James Kunle Street report that their homes are now uninhabitable. Ubah, who recently completed his house, highlighted that clogged canals and ongoing sand-filling projects at the Obadore bridge have exacerbated the flooding. With local access roads blocked by fallen infrastructure, stranded citizens are calling on the Lagos State Government for immediate assistance to prevent structural collapses.
