Mexico Secures Spot in 2026 World Cup Round of 16

Mexico has advanced to the 2026 World Cup Round of 16 after a 2-0 win over Ecuador, joining other qualified nations like Brazil and France.

Co-hosting nation Mexico has officially advanced to the knockout stages of the 2026 World Cup, becoming the seventh team to do so. Led by manager Javier Aguirre, the squad secured their place following a 2-0 victory against Ecuador on Wednesday.

Julian Quinones and Raul Jimenez provided the goals during the first half of the match. Ecuador’s situation worsened late in the game when Piero Hincapie received a red card in the 95th minute, forcing his side to finish the contest with ten players.

Mexico joins Canada as the second co-hosting nation to reach this phase of the tournament. The team now awaits the outcome of the match between England and DR Congo to determine their next opponent. Other nations that have already reached the Round of 16 include Brazil, Norway, Paraguay, France, and Morocco.
