Delta State police apprehend pair involved in unsuccessful abduction

Delta State police and local vigilantes have arrested two suspects, Iliyasu Hassan and Idris Abdulkarim, for a failed kidnapping attempt that occurred in Ughelli North.

Law enforcement officials from the A Division, working alongside local vigilantes in the Ughelli North region of Delta State, have captured two men linked to a botched kidnapping from June 19, 2026. Authorities identified the detainees as Iliyasu Hassan and Idris Abdulkarim, who were taken into custody on the evening of June 22, 2026.

Bright Edafe, the spokesperson for the Delta State Police, verified the development during a press briefing in Warri. According to Edafe, the men were discovered when they left a forest hideout to secure supplies of food and medicine. During questioning, a previous kidnapping victim successfully identified both individuals as participants in a prior assault. The police currently hold the suspects while they pursue leads to locate remaining gang members and recover illicit firearms.
