In response to the frequent kidnappings and abductions across Oyo State, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has instructed local churches to heighten security measures. A communique signed by the state Chairman, Rev. Elisha Ogundiya, and Secretary, Very Rev. Samuel Owolabi, urged congregations to halt late-night events and bolster physical defenses.
Church leaders have been told to prioritize the construction of perimeter fencing and gates. Furthermore, religious institutions must deploy trained security personnel and monitoring devices during services. Organizations are also advised to screen all staff and strictly prohibit unauthorized individuals from staying on church property overnight.
The association further encouraged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and comply with Governor Seyi Makinde’s directive prohibiting commercial motorcycle operations after 10:30 p.m. While expressing solidarity with families affected by recent kidnappings, CAN called on both state and federal authorities to accelerate efforts to rescue those still held by criminals. The body pledged to continue cooperating with the government to ensure stability and safety throughout the state.
