The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clarified on Wednesday that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike is not defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This statement came after APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, praised Wike’s performance in the Federal Capital Territory.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, emphasized that Wike remains a key member of the opposition party despite his role in President Bola Tinubu’s government. The party likened his current position to a political loan agreement, explicitly stating that no clause exists for a permanent transfer to the APC.
The PDP dismissed any rumors of a pending defection, insisting that Wike’s service under the current administration has not compromised his loyalty or political identity. The party attributed the recent praise from the APC to Wike’s tangible results in urban renewal and infrastructure development, which have garnered widespread approval.
By highlighting Wike’s success, the PDP argued that the recognition serves as a testament to the high caliber of leadership within its ranks. The party concluded by calling on Nigerians to support the PDP in the 2027 elections, positioning the organization as a reservoir of talented leaders ready to improve the nation.
