Law enforcement in Osun State has apprehended eight individuals suspected of involvement in cultism and political violence. The arrests took place during targeted missions in Osogbo and Ilesa.
DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Police Public Relations Officer, stated on behalf of Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan that the Anti-Cultism Unit conducted the operations based on verified intelligence. The first capture happened on June 17, 2026, in Ilesa’s Iloro district. Officers detained 30-year-old Abiola Osobu Michael, known as ‘Small,’ who admitted to being an Eiye confraternity member. Authorities seized an axe, a live cartridge, and several caps associated with the cult.
A second operation occurred early on June 19, 2026, in the Sasa neighborhood of Osogbo. Seven people were taken into custody: Afolabi Samson, Ojute Imoleayo, Jimoh Olayinka, Oluwasesin Niyi, Robin Akeem, Robin Selim, and Nurudeen Kafayat. Police officials confirmed they are actively tracking additional suspects who evaded capture during the raids. All detainees will face prosecution once the investigation concludes. Commissioner Gotan urged guardians to oversee their wards more effectively and encouraged youth to avoid criminal activities.
